We all grew up with the nostalgic magic of Hostess Cupcakes — that ultra-soft chocolate cake, the surprise cream filling, and of course, the signature swirl on top. But let’s be real: the sugar crash after one of those treats? Not so sweet.
Enter: our better-for-you version made with zero added sugar — but still 100% GOOD GOOD.
This dupe recipe keeps all the flavor and fun of the classic treat, but swaps in smarter ingredients like a zero sugar chocolate cake mix and our creamy, dreamy Choco Hazel and Choco White spreads to create a snack you can feel GOOD GOOD about.
Makes about 12 cupcakes
Ingredients:
-
1 box of zero sugar chocolate cake mix
-
Ingredients listed on your cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
-
GOOD GOOD Choco Hazel (for the frosting)
-
GOOD GOOD Choco White (for the creamy filling + iconic swirl)
Instructions:
-
Bake the Cake:
Prepare the zero sugar cake mix according to the box directions. Add in a dollop or two of GOOD GOOD Choco Hazel for extra flavor! Pour into a cupcake tin lined with wrappers and bake as directed. Let cool completely. -
Fill 'Em Up:
Once the cupcakes are cool, use a knife or cupcake corer to make a small hole in the center of each cupcake. Fill each with a spoonful of GOOD GOOD Choco White — the rich, white chocolate flavor mimics that Hostess-style filling, but without any added sugar. -
Frost the Tops:
Spread a generous layer of Choco Hazel over the top of each cupcake for that rich, glossy finish. -
Swirl Time:
Scoop GOOD GOOD Choco White into a small piping bag or sandwich bag with the tip snipped off. Pipe the classic white swirl design across the top of each cupcake.
Pro Tip:
Pop your cupcakes in the fridge for 10–15 minutes before serving so the filling sets just right. They're perfect for party trays, meal prep snacks, or just a sweet treat when you’re craving something nostalgic.
